The Murphy Center will host two major events on December 8th, 2018, as part of Homeless Awareness Day:
Mission to Hope Walk and Murphy Center Community Dinner.
These events help make possible everything that we do…and they’re fun for everyone!
Mission to Hope Walk (8 AM to 11 AM)
The Murphy Center Mission to Hope Walk: Individuals, families, businesses, agency partners and other groups will take the .8-mile walk—together—from the local shelters to the Murphy Center. This is a walk that many people we serve take every day. Following the Walk will be an Open House at the Murphy Center for our community to visit with and learn more about our collaborative of agencies and services. Brunch will be provided by local restaurants for all of our MC Guests (those receiving services from the MC) that have been sponsored by our community to attend!
Murphy Center Community Dinner (6 PM to 9 PM)
The Murphy Center Community Dinner: More than 200 individuals—people who are housed and guests (clients) of the Murphy Center—will come together to learn more about the Murphy Center collaborative, engage in conversation and share a meal. The Community Dinner will take place at First Presbyterian Church, just south of Old Town.
plus a full day of new events!!

Homeless Awareness Day Call to Action
We are proclaiming Fort Collins Homeless Awareness Day to actively engage in conversations that raise awareness about homelessness and activities that further our community’s vision to make homelessness rare, short-lived and non-recurring. We hope that our two events (Mission to Hope Walk and Murphy Center Community Dinner) can serve as “bookends” on Homeless Awareness Day to many different activities throughout our community.
We encourage faith-based organizations, businesses, social groups, neighborhoods, volunteers, schools and individuals to consider organizing their own activities leading up to Homeless Awareness Day (December 8th), capped off by joining together for the Mission to Hope Walk or Murphy Center Community Dinner. Here are just a few ideas on what you can do, individually or as a group:
- Subscribe to Our Newsletter
- Ask Us for Homeless Awareness Day Postcards and Send Them to Your Friends
- Purchase a Group Walk Package with Your Friends or Co-Workers
- Read a Book About Poverty and Have a Discussion with Your Friends or Book Club

People who are experiencing homelessness struggle with wounds, frostbite and a risk of trench foot associated with being in wet shoes and boots during the colder months. Join us for an evening of fun and food while we pack foot care kits for the homeless in our community, to help prevent injuries due to inadequate care of one’s feet. The care kits will be distributed by Homeward Alliance at the Murphy Center.

“The Murphy Center was completely instrumental in all facets of help that I needed. The smiles and encouragement here made all the difference. In fact, everything I now enjoy is a direct result of the many resources and services that the Murphy Center offers. I am extremely grateful that such a place is in existence, otherwise I’m not certain what my circumstances would be at this time in my life.” – David
