Events

The Murphy Center hosts two main fundraising and awareness-building events each year: the Murphy Center Community Dinner and the Mission to Hope Walk.

”The Murphy Center was completely instrumental in all facets of help that I needed. The smiles and encouragement here made all the difference. In fact, everything I now enjoy is a direct result of the many resources and services that the Murphy Center offers. I am extremely grateful that such a place is in existence, otherwise I’m not certain what my circumstances would be at this time in my life.”  – David

Are you or your business interested in sponsoring one or both of our events? Our goal with each event is to spend as little as possible — that way, most of (or in some cases, everything) we raise can go to programs and services for people experiencing homelessness or in jeopardy of becoming homeless.  This would not be possible without our event sponsors: companies, foundations and individuals who donate in-kind or with direct funding to cover the costs of our events.  To learn more about sponsorship, please contact Ken John at Ken@HomelessGear.org or (970) 581-4921

Mission to Hope Walk – Saturday, December 2nd, 2017

  csu-walk-volunteers

The Murphy Center will host the 4th annual Mission to Hope Walk on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017.  We will walk as a unified community (those with housing and those without) along the same route that many of our guests take each day from the overnight shelters (Missions) to the Murphy Center.

The goals of the event are to:

  • Raise awareness about homelessness
  • Come together as a unified community
  • Share the Murphy Center with our community (via an Open House)
  • Raise funds for the Murphy Center

There are five ways that you can support the Mission to Hope Walk:

  1. Purchase tickets to walk for yourself, family and friends ($25 per ticket)
  2. Form a walking team with your faith-based organization, business, neighborhood, school or other group!
  3. Purchase a ticket to sponsor a guest (or guests) of the Murphy Center (someone receiving services) to walk, spend the morning at the Murphy Center and receive lunch ($25 per ticket)
  4. Make a donation
  5. Be an event sponsor ($500 or $1,000 levels). Please click here for a PDF version of our sponsorship packet or contact Contact Ken@HomelessGear.org or 970-581-4921 for more details.

Please click here for tickets, detailed event information and/or to make a donation.

You can also write a check to “Murphy Center” and mail it to: Murphy Center, Attn: Ken John, 242 Conifer Street, Fort Collins, CO 80524.  With your check, please include the name(s) of the ticket holder(s) and/or if you are purchasing tickets to sponsor guests of the Murphy Center.

If you intend to join us in the walk and are looking for an additional way to support our cause, we encourage you to donate gear in conjunction with the walk. Please feel free to pack along with you any high demand winter items. Just like the guests we serve, you must carry these items with you for the length of the walk; you can drop off your donations when we end our walk at the Murphy Center. Items that are in high demand for winter months include tents, hats, gloves, socks, footwear, jackets, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, blankets, hand-warmers, tarps, coats, backpacks and daypacks.

Murphy Center Community Dinner – Friday, August 4th, 2017

The Murphy Center hosted the second-annual Community Dinner on Friday, August 4th, 2017.  With your support, we were able to host 200 community members (including more than 60 guests from the MC) to learn more about the MC collaborative, build awareness about homelessness, engage in conversation and share a meal.  Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets, bought tickets to sponsor a guest, bought a “table”, sponsored the event, or provided product or services.  Your support helped us double the net proceeds from last year (wow!!) and will enable us to provide more programs, services and support for more than 35,000 guest visits annually.

Based on guest comments who attended we believe all 4 of our event goals were met:

  • Bring the community together (those with housing and those without) to share a meal
  • Raise awareness about homelessness
  • Raise awareness about the Murphy Center
  • Raise funds to support the Murphy Center

Emails received from MC guests after the 2017 MC Community Dinner:

“It was our pleasure! I was honored to be asked to come. I was grateful for that. I had a great time. Thank you for inviting me to this event. I hope that next year I will be invited to come again.
