For all of the Murphy Center staff, agency partners, volunteers, donors, and supporting businesses and organizations wondering if you are making a difference.

“The Murphy Center has always been there to give me encouragement and a warm cup of coffee in the morning and counselors to work on my individual issues. They have clothed me and keep my hygiene up. They have made my life bearable when I just thought I couldn’t go on. We need more Murphy Center all over our country. Bless you One and All. “ – David F

“Without that place [Murphy Center], it would be impossible to survive homelessness. Nobody else helps you like the Murphy Center.” – Cliff G.

“When you are homeless people don’t want you hanging around and tell you to “get out of here”.  The Murphy Center gave me a place to rest and feel welcome.  I could get inside out of the cold or heat.  The staff here is wonderful.  Always willing to listen and be helpful in finding the person or agency that could most help.  I would have been lost without the Murphy Center.  Where else could I have gone to get all the resources they provide.  I’m just thankful that you have been here and have given me the help I needed……AND NOW I HAVE A HOME….ME AND KIWI (my dog)!”    Deborah

“The Murphy Center and all its resources has changed my life and given me a new beginning.  I went from substance abuse, domestic violence, emotional wreck, homelessness to dealing with all these problems and conquering them one by one.  Certain people have been my angels but on a whole the Murphy Center was the beginning and the end.  I can’t say enough good things about the programs because they all saved my life for real.

I’m now in housing and no longer on the street, dealing with my emotional issues (only the beginning).  Thank you and God Bless each and every staff member, councilor and team member of the Murphy Center.  You have all played a big role in making me remember that life can be good no matter how bad it’s been in the past.  Please keep trying to change lives and I will be grateful to you all forever.

PS:  I hope to make a difference in someone’s life one day the way you have made a difference to me.”     Roshon

“The Murphy Center has given me the encouragement to meet my bigger goals.  They pointed me in the right direction for what I needed to keep going and also helped me meet the smaller goals in order to meet my bigger goals.  Everybody greets and makes you feel comfortable and welcome.  They are always checking on me to make sure I was well and taking care of myself and giving me encouragement to let me know I could do it!  They were there for me to allow me to vent and supported me through really tough times.  I am so excited to get my health back in order and not worry about missing important appointments.  I didn’t care about my health or anything, thinking I would likely die out here but with the encouragement of the staff and the MC I was able to care more.  Things have turned around and now I have hope.  I’m soooooo excited.”       Twyla—10 years experiencing homelessness

“I hope to be a good steward of all the volunteers who I’ve me and talked with that never gave up on me. They taught me to add value to my name and forgive myself and encourage others that every person deserves rest, comfort, forgiveness, and always be quick to listen and quicker to encourage others that every day is a gift if you choose it to be. Be honest with your problems and open to solutions. Many thanks to all that fight for kindness in the trenches of everyday reality!”  Matt

“Dear MC Staff:

Thank you for everything you all have done for me.  I miss you all a whole bunch.  I have to send an apology because I have chosen to be an addict forever and I was never judged for that there.  It really was the people there that gave me hope and not what services that were offered.  I love you all for the fact that if I need anything or just to vent, you all were always just waiting with a smile.  I love you all very much and miss you guys.”    Sky

“In one lifetime, which is all we get, right, we run across people that will just take your breath away, and maybe even your heart; that one stoke of luck we all look for on that rainy day: The morning smiles, and greetings of hope, are then visible, on those beautiful faces of those Murphy women, and gentlemen , that open the doors for all those people wanting just a glimpse of a change in their day, ” that genuine smile”.  Thank you! Happy Holidays to all!”   Reynaldo

“The Murphy Center was so essential to me! My daily life was dependent on the Murphy Center. But what I needed to do was gain my independence back and be dependent on myself. The Murphy Center gave me the opportunity to look at the importance of taking it one step at a time. To learn how to navigate your life to secure living and productive living. Thank you everyone! And to all the volunteers that took the time to get to know “Max” and myself!”                              John Mark and “Max”

“Marla Clearly handed me a layout of all of the real estate agencies so I could get an overview of what I was up against. When I first came, Rachel helped me with resources around town. Mrs. Connie and Mrs. Kim were very helpful and understanding of my situation. All of those ladies helped me gain hope and motivation just by them being understanding, patient and helpful. I really do appreciate their services. I would suggest that anyone that needs urgent help to come to the Murphy Center. They are extraordinary.”         Jermez

I have been fed, clothed and given a fresh perspective on life. Thank you for all the help. We are blessed.”         Patricia

“This place helped me to have shelter during the cold winter months. All of the people here are awesome. I would not have my own place without the help of Marla and all the rest of the staff. Please continue to do what you do as this place can be used as a crutch for people to get back on their feet. I made the poor choice of leaving school last October and left for Seattle on a Greyhound bus with my school money, and was paying for that mistake ever since then. Connie is also a very sweet lady and should be held in the highest regards. Love all you guys and God bless your hearts.”       Derek

“The Murphy Center was there for me rain or snow, up or down days. It was all I knew at times. Somebody always cared, helped or steered me in the right direction. Counselors were awesome. Daniel and Barb… I can’t remember everybody’s names. All of them were angels from heaven. Not a day went by that someone filled my stomach or clothed me. Mentally they would put you on the right track. Emotionally, someone let you cry on their shoulder. I was a drunk and a half. People would still help. Bless them. Drank to stay warm. Set me up with doctors when I was ill. Called me by name, smiled always. It took going there when I was in need or trouble. Helped me get out of it, right to the end when I cancelled my mail delivery. Changed my address to a home. If I could do it, anybody can. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I would say that the Murphy Center is there to help. All it takes in walking in and asking for help. Thank you and God bless everyone through the years that helped.”       Mark

“Well, when I first lost my house, I had no clue how to be homeless until someone told me about the Murphy Center. Now looking back, it may have saved my life. It was a place where I felt safe, accepted, not judged. I could get a shower, coffee, and hot breakfast. They have all you need to get on your feet and re-coop.  It has not been easy. It has taken me a year to get on my feet. If the Murphy Center was not here, it would have been a lot harder to do or impossible at least.  Thanks!”      Phillip

“I was one of the first ones in the door when it opened. At the time, I was a chronic homeless person. It used to be a place of refuge for me then. 3 years ago, I got sober and moved into the Lighthouse. HPI helped pay my rent there for 1 month. Now I am renting a house and feed the homeless twice a week. I remain sober to this day. Thank you!”      Michael “Miguel”

“Space taker I am not. I have been blessed with a rare glimpse into a life I choose not to embrace. If not for Homeless Gear’s Hand Up organization, along with the Murphy Center and Catholic Charities, my present future would not be so clear.   Without your profound impact, I would still be on the merry-go-round of homelessness.”  Sara J.

“The Murphy Center for Hope, being a container of comfort and guidance, of direction and, well, of hope… it’s helped me with a place to stay, a job, a hug, warmth, food, comfort… My thanks for their ever-smiles and direction, for their concerns and their warmth, for their skills and their colossal hearts for others, for their time and attention.  My wounds are still healing, but… My Situation Will Change.”  Nathan

One guest, who was facing homelessness for the first time says:

”The Murphy Center was completely instrumental in all facets of help that I needed. The smiles and encouragement here made all the difference. In fact, everything I now enjoy is a direct result of the many resources and services that the Murphy Center offers. I am extremely grateful that such a place is in existence, otherwise I’m not certain what my circumstances would be at this time in my life.”   David

“I had been without a place to live since June of 2009, after losing my job. I spent 11 months in Cheyenne because I wanted to get away for a while, learn some things about myself and renew my spirit, and I think I am better and stronger for it. I came back to Fort Collins in May 2010, and have been working on putting my life back together, and the Murphy Center has been a tremendous resource. It’s been a place to heal and start taking steps forward. It can be a long process and takes time, but little by little things do change.”   Richard

“I came to Fort Collins for a new start. The Murphy Center has been a total blessing. Through their help I have received assistance from a number of resources. I have gotten food stamps, medical care and job search assistance. We now have an apartment and things are finally going well for us thanks to the Murphy Center programs.”   Ellen

“I previously lived in California and when my husband of six years said he longer wanted to be married, I did not know what to do. I could not see myself living in California and being able to take care of my son. So I decided to move here and move in with my mother.  I started working in April of 2010, and still continue to work hard every day. I started to look at options for getting on my own two feet and when I went to try to get assistance (food stamps and TANF), they told me I made $50 too much to receive help from them. They directed me to the Murphy Center for Hope and I came in and talked to Esther. She was motivating and gave me some options with what I could do. I met with Steve and he helped me with housing and gave me hope again that I could get my own place and make a great life for me and my son.

Today I am moving into my own place. I am able to get the keys and start the life I always dreamed of having. I m extremely thankful to this Center for Hope because that is exactly what it gave me: Hope! I know this is the first step to having my own independence and giving me and my son a life we deserve.”   Jessica

“To everyone at the Murphy Center for Hope: Without your help I would not have been able to get my new dentures, not be able to smile again. With your help I have a different way of looking at things, life, family, etc. Thank you everyone for your support and friendship and I thank the people who help you make a dream come true. I’m very grateful. God bless you all.”   Allen
